Holograph in pencil. Four-part harmony exercises realized by Mary Anthony Cox under the tutelage of Nadia Boulanger between the years 1947 and 1949. Exercises are realizations of those found in the Traité d’harmonie théorique et pratique by Théodore Dubois, each realization corresponding to a page and exercise number in Dubois. Exercises are organized chronologically into groups numbered IV to XVII. Several exercises have marginal comments in Cox’s hand, often with the word “farther” written to indicate that the exercise reappears in revised form within the manuscript. Boulanger’s occasional markings are inscribed in red, blue and green pencil and black ink. Gift of Mary Anthony Cox, 2013.
