Holograph in brown ink. Melodrama following introductory chorus, here omitted, from 3rd number of incidental music to Racine’s play Athalie, for 3 characters speaking over orchestral accompaniment, presented in skeletal form on 1 or 2 staves with superlinear text. Comprises the section beginning: “Comment en un plomb vil,” in vocal score, text in French with instructions in German (“…Wenn der Chor aufhort spricht Joad…”), notated in brown ink on sixteen and twelve staves. Includes signed autograph letter written in German in black ink attached to left edge of score addressed to publishing house of Kistner, Berlin in which composer cites enclosure of Ouverture and other sections of Athalie. Letter is dated: London d. 14 Juni 1844.
